Our History & Staff | Pet Boarding QLD
In 2006 Darrin & Abbey took over the Acacia Ridge Pet Motel, renaming the boarding kennel as Acacia Ridge Pet Resort and giving the whole facility a makeover. Additions included two large grassed dog exercise yards, a cat playground, 5 luxury suites for pampered pooches.
We won the 2008 Business Achievers Award and have been finalists every year since then. We love what we do which is apparent in every aspect of the pet resort.
We are proud members of the Queensland Association of Pet Boarding and Grooming.
In the last 7 years the boarding facility's reputation has blossomed to be one of the best pet boarding kennels in Brisbane. Dogs & cats happily stay here 365 days a year. Staff are friendly and genuinely love their jobs. It's a fantastic place and we welcome people to come visit, please contact us, you'll be impressed!
Meet Our Staff
I love all animals so working at a pet resort is the perfect job for me! But, growing up with dogs in the family all through-out my life means that they’re definitely my favourite. I recently adopted a Doberman cross from the AWLQld. He also thinks I have the perfect job and loves coming into the resort with me. When we’re not at work, we go to the dog park and I love to tell everyone the interesting and often adorable stories about my day working with all the different dogs I get to look after. I’m currently studying at university so getting to hang out with dogs all day at my job feels like more of a reward than work, especially when I see all their wagging tails greeting me.
I have always been a big animal lover having grown up with all sorts of pets, but especially loved the companionship of dogs. Last year I made the decision to adopt my very own dog, Patty. I loved spending time training her, taking her to the park or the beach and just generally looking after her. With Patty, my interest for dogs continued to grow and I decided I needed to follow my passion and pursue a career change. I was then welcomed into the Acacia Ridge Pet Resort family and am now lucky enough to have my dream job! I look forward to meeting all your furry family members!
Initially I did work experience at the pet resort while I was at school and I really loved it. I've grown up with dogs all my life and when the opportunity came up for a part time job at the Pet Resort, I was very excited and now work 4 days a week. Working at the Resort is very rewarding and I enjoy every single day of it!
I love working at Acacia Ridge Pet Resort, simply because I love dogs. I have two of my own, a German Shepherd named Chief and a Greyhound cross named Chloe. I also foster dogs at my home for various rescue groups and enjoy watching them become happy well adjusted dogs. I have so much fun playing with the dogs at the Pet Resort as they are just so loving. Every dog has their own character and brings me so much joy with their antics. Some love to play ball, tug of war, learn new tricks or simply enjoy cuddles and scratches. Our staff are also very committed to every pets' welfare and are all very friendly.
Growing up on a farm in South Australia my love of animals has always been a large part of my life. I have always had pets. After studying business management and becoming aware of the pet boarding industry, my husband and I took over the pet resort in 2006.
I worked in the kennels 7 days a week for three years and then had our two sons Ben, 2009 and Zac, 2011. Our staff are carefully chosen and Darrin and I are always onsite to make sure everything is running smoothly. We have two pets – a Domestic Long Haired Cat – General and an English Staffy called Busta. My boys and I visit the pets everyday and I can already see their love for animals.
I am a tradesman and can usually be found upgrading and maintaining the pet resort, I’m always coming up with a new idea. I built the cat playground & the luxury suites from scratch, from installing the walls and exercise yard turf to welding the custom made beds.
I love dogs, I have had many cattle dogs over the years. I believe the bond between a man and his dog is special. I really enjoy living on acreage and ensuring the pet resort is kept in an immaculate state. The pets have a fantastic time here and I’m always happy to see returning pets, overseeing me work in the kennels!
Loving animals for as long as I can remember, I always knew I wanted to work in the pet industry. Never without a canine friend throughout my life, I’ve always thought the love and experience shared with a pet is like no other. I currently have one very full of personality Alaskan Malamute named Tika, and an adopted Whippet named Piccolo. Being here at the kennels since 2007, I can definitely say there is nothing better than loving where you work! The resort has grown so much since I’ve first started and can only see it getting better and better.

I have always loved all animals, especially dogs! I grew up with cats and other small animals like birds and rabbits having grown up in NSW. When I moved to Brisbane, I adopted a Ridgeback x Bloodhound in 2014 and there truly is never a dull moment spent with him. I hope and plan to adopt a few more furry friends to join our family!
Since starting at the Pet Resort and becoming part of the team here, I can really see why people love to bring their pets to us! The dogs are always so happy to come and stay, the cats enjoy it too!
